    IT’S DEFINITELY SHOW TIME
As this is being written, I’m still recovering from 2,000 miles of towing our Regal Roadsters Thunderbird to and from the Knott’s Berry Farm Fun Under the Sun handcrafted car show, with gas prices hovering just over $3.50 a gallon (and closer to $4.00 in California) and my F150 gulping the valuable stuff to the tune of slightly more than five miles per gallon on the way out and just above eight on the way home! And in a little over a week, we’ll be heading out to the Carlisle (PA) show, some 1,600 miles, one way.

You’ll be able to read all about the stuff we found at the Knott’s show in the next issue of KCB, as well as all that occurs in Pennsylvania, but I wanted to point out a couple of things ahead of time. As usual the California show was fun, if oppressively hot and a bit unusual this year, and the variety of cars that showed up was most welcome.

The heat was a topic of conversation all weekend with temps exceeding 98 degrees on Saturday and over 100 on Sunday. As we were packing up to head home, the thermometer on my truck indicated 113 degrees radiating off the tarmac with several show participants suffering signs of heat stroke and availing themselves of the paramedics on hand.

I say the show was a little unusual this year too because Factory Five Racing held an official gathering in nearby Huntington Beach on Saturday, drawing more than 100 cars, many of which normally attend the Knott’s gathering. Factory Five did have a small commercial display at Knott’s, with more cars showing up on Sunday.

In addition, for the third year running, a concurrent Speedster replica event was being held in central California that presumably also drew some numbers away from the nearly 30-year-old Knott’s event.

As it was Knott’s drew about 200 cars for the weekend. We certainly had our work cut out for us covering three events in one weekend, but hey, we’re professionals and you’ll see extensive coverage of all of them in the next issue of KCB.
